FREE ENTRY - 4PM SECRET ACT???? Plus... The Far Outs The Breadmakers Brisbane garage heathens The FAR OUTS head South to Old Melbourne town for the very first time to unleash their debut, self-titled album on unsuspecting bystanders, the curious, random strangers and uber fans alike. Along for the ride will be local legends The Breadmakers. Dig it… The FAR OUTS began as a side project to Brisbane’s Grand Atlantic, as an outlet for songs that didn’t quite fit the band’s format but still desperately needed a place to party. With influences ranging from the likes of The Kinks, The Sonics and The Easybeats, the group are quickly establishing a reputation for their 60’s influenced Garage Rock - featuring blistering riffs, catchy choruses and drums akimbo. The FAR OUTS played their first show in Fortitude Valley on October 5th, 2020 and have since performed at most live music venues in Brisbane including your favourite bar, and are probably there right now drinking your beers. Drummer Jonny Pickvance (Blonde On Blonde/Fingerless etc) has been a part of Brisbane’s music scene for long enough to know better. He joins singer/guitarist Phil Usher (Sacred Shrines, Hillsborough etc) to complete the ultimate party equation. Jonny and Phil have been around the block a few times and have shared the stage with a kaleidoscope of local and international bands, including everything from The Dandy Warhols and INXS to Barry Manilow, Tame Impala and a whole heap more. Chief songwriter Phil Usher, who also drums for Screamfeeder and Sounds Like Sunset, has had his work featured internationally on TV shows and movies, with songs featured on Gossip Girl, Dawson’s Creek, Bondi Rescue, Underbelly and more. The band launched their debut 7 inch in June 2021 with their first album released in July 2023 on California’s garage/psych label Rebel Waves Records/Ripple Music. The FAR OUTS are currently making their way around the country for their debut National Tour. Buy the ticket. Take the ride. The BREADMAKERS With more than three decades of music making behind them, The Breadmakers are a well known institution in Melbourne. Forming in 1989, they quickly became mainstays on the garage-rock underground circuit and unlikely heroes on the Fitzroy/Collingwood indie scene throughout the 90s. You’ll know them from their previous six albums and countless shows including all the usual suspects like Big Day Out and Meredith Music Festival. Though they have never officially taken a break, The Breadmakers new self-titled album is the band’s first since 2008’s Night of the Cobra, and their second album in over 20 years. Featuring ten new Breadmaker originals, including raucous toe-tappers like the opener ‘Corner of My Eye’ and ‘Monkey Do’, as well as some moodier numbers like ‘The Savage’ and ‘Swamped’, the album also breathes live into some old classic covers. Recorded and mixed by Mikey Young in a beach shack on the cliffs of a Sorrento back beach, Young has captured the immediacy and energy of The Breadmakers’ sound like never before.
